Publication Information: New York, James Miller Publisher. n.d. found but on the front lining paper and the inside lining paper is written a name, from Mama and the date Feb. 19th, 1881.
Additional Information: Each section has the pages numbered separately so all total there is approx. 104 pages. Many illustrations all in color and they are very stunning and look like they were hand painted.
Summary: This is a collection of stories and illustration by Heinrich Hoffman (1809-1894). He was a German physician and writer who is best known for his work DER STRUWWELPETER (1845), Shockhead Peter or Slovenly Peter, the story of a boy, who had bad manners. Hoffmann's tales were written against all today's politically 'correct' principles - they were meant to scare children when they fail to follow the instructions of their elders. Der Struwwelpeter has been translated into some 30 languages and it has deeply influenced children's literature. Maurice Sendak, one of the most famous children's books illustrators, have stated about its drawings: "Graphically it is one of the most beautiful books in the world." Include in this volume are:

Condition: Hard cover, cover is decorated with gold gilt lettering, corner tips are bumped and bared at points; pocket inside front cover, name on front lining paper and front fly plus a sticker of a pig eating on front fly; pages 3-6 (first story) have a 2 “tear near the binding seam; text is pulling some but still intact; some light small soiled spot and few small tears; few smudges but overall a good copy with some outstanding illustrations.
