Summary: The author in a feeble way is attempting to chronicle some of the happenings of early Omaha. What he has written was not originally intended for publication but more to interest his children and grandchildren. He has not attempted to write a history of Omaha, but only to chronicle some of the events that occurred during the time when it was the frontier. There are 66 chapters some as short as a paragraph and some much longer. Some of the chapter titles are: The Name Omaha, The Mormons, Before the Building of Omaha, The Treaty With the Omahas, The Frontier, Taking Up Residence In Omaha, The First Legislature, Across the Plains to Pike’s Peak, Destruction Of a Train By Indians, First Church in Omaha, A Saloon in the Capitol Building, Fort Omaha, Lincoln’s Lost Railroad Order, Lincoln’s Visit to Council Bluffs, Jefferson Davis and His Omaha Correspondence, Bellevue and the Fontenelle Family, The Indians, The Telegraph, Muddy Omaha, Steamboating on the Missouri, Omaha’s First Post Office, Frontier Facts, Frontier Frolics, Headquarters Department of the Platte, A Prairie Chicken Hunt and many more.
Condition: Hard cover, covers show some wear and have some soiling, text is sound with some light age discoloring and some soiled spots, overall a good plus copy.
