Summary: This is the story of a family, the Harpers, who had traits of courage and perseverance and good sense that we associate with the average Americans. Mrs. Williams, using the device of a fictionalized autobiography by her mother, Henrietta Palmer, has written a story full of the details which round out the resplendent picture of our American heritage. Henrietta’s story starts with her great grandfather, Captain Alexander Harper, and tells of his thrilling adventures in the Revolution, his brushes with Indians and later his founding of Harpersfield, Ohio. Personalized and intimate history is recorded in the life of the Harper family through the time of Henrietta’s life in Wisconsin. This is a document of a disappearing way of life.
Condition: Hard cover, covers show slight wear and light soiling; lining papers have some discoloring; text is pulling and spine seam is cracked in several places but still intact; hint of age discoloring; overall a good readable copy. Dust wrapper is very worn, scuffed, tore, soiled and has pieces missing.
