Summary: The Yearling, novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, published in 1938 and awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1939. Set in the backwoods of northern Florida, the story concerns the relationship between 12-year-old Jody Baxter and Flag, the fawn he adopts. When the fawn cannot be stopped from eating the family’s crops, Jody’s father forces Jody to shoot Flag. This tragedy propels Jody into greater maturity and a better understanding of his parents’ hardscrabble life.
Condition: Hardcover, Cloth cover that shows some wear and light soiling, bottom spine seam is worn with pieces missing, top is starting to fray. Lining paper seam in front and back are both cracked and threads are exposed so covers are loose but still attached. Text is intact but near center it has pulled and looks as if someone might have tried to re-glue it. Few small soiled spots. A readable copy with some nice illustrations.
